Who the?

her·e·tic  [n. her-i-tik; adj. her-i-tik, huh-ret-ik]
noun
  1. a professed believer who maintains religious opinions contrary to those accepted by his or her church or rejects doctrines prescribed by that church.
  2. anyone who does not conform to an established attitude, doctrine, or principle.

I'm Kaylani. I am a heretic.

I'm 24, a Barista in Olympia, WA with a degree in writing and cultural studies. My husband and I lived together before we got married, and don't want children. We are heretics.

The buildings people fill up in the name of Christianity, I call church. I do not, except in rare occasion, attend church. Instead, I live as Church daily. The Church is Christ's body (Eph 1:23, Col 1:18, 1 Cor 12:12-end), His very hands and feet, ears and mouth. That's you and me, my friends. Not a building or a schedule or a set of rules. Church are those who give and receive Papa's love freely. Do according to what they see Papa doing. Live in and create community wherever they're at. Serve at every opportunity. A bunch of heretics.

Conversion is not my aim, and I take no stock in "The Sinner's Prayer." Christ's work is finished, entirely and completely. The Gospel's purpose is to set captives free. Whether it's through physical healing, encouragement, a hug, a dance party or whatever creative ideas Papa gives me in the moment, my aim is to bring people into personal relationship with Him; into our identities as free people in Christ.

I am a follower of Jesus, because I believe he loves you best. My ministry is my life. My missions field is not a place I have to raise money to go to or a foreign culture I must assimilate into my own. I believe that Jesus is alive and willingly demonstrates himself to and through those who love and/or need him. Thus, I've not only been identified as heretic, follower, and believer, but as healer, prophet, and mystic as well. If you're reading this blog, I'm releasing these identities over you too. If you want them.

As God teaches me about my ministry, my mission, and my identity as a member Christ's Body, I will write and share here on The Daily Heretic. I do not seek to preach or teach, here. We are co-learners, co-teachers, co-creators. Your feedback, experiences, and prayer requests are welcomed and valued.

Commune: to give and receive. I've given you my thoughts and stories. If you give me yours in response, we are in fact creating community. If we're anything like Jesus, we're community creators.
